Memphis FCI

Federal Correctional Institution Memphis, located in Shelby County in Memphis, Tennessee, is a medium-security facility for male offenders with an adjacent minimum-security work camp. It opened in 1977. In addition to the standard facility, the institution also contains a detention center for male detainees who are awaiting trial. Unless detainees are deemed physically or mentally unable to work by prison health officials, all inmates must work in prison jobs. In addition, they may pursue academic and enrichment courses. For example, the facility offers GED, ESL, and Adult Continuing Education (ACE) classes to inmates. Inmates also have access to law and leisure libraries, indoor and outdoor recreation, and various drug treatment programs.

Federal Correctional Institution Memphis Camp, located in Shelby County in Memphis, Tennessee, is a minimum-security work camp for male offenders with an adjacent medium-security prison. The inmates incarcerated here are deemed to be nonviolent and are not constrained by as many restrictions and controls as those experienced at higher security prisons. Sex offenders and inmates with a history of escape are not permitted to be housed at federal prison camps. Inmates may participate in educational and personal enrichment courses.
