Rivers Correctional Facility Prison Services Information
Rivers Correctional Center is a contracted correctional institution operated by the private corporation GEO Group, Inc. The prison primarily houses deportable aliens convicted of federal crimes, as with many contract private prisons. A large number of inmates incarcerated at CI Rivers are inmates from the District of Columbia.
The facility received initial accreditation from the American Correctional Association (ACA) in 2003. The prison was reaccredited in 2006, 2009, and 2012. The Joint Commission (JCAHO) accredited the facility in January 2003. The institution was reaccredited in 2006 and 2009.
Inmates at Rivers Correctional Institution are housed in two-person cells within housing units.
New arrivals receive an intake examination. Routine and emergency health care and dental care are both available to the inmate population. Emergency care is available 24 hours a day. Inmates must submit a sick call form for routine or chronic health care concerns.
CI Rivers provides inmates with access to a variety of treatment groups. Stress management, anger management, parenting, and life skills classes are available. Psychology Services Department also offers the “Doing Time with the Right Mind” program. This program is designed to teach inmates time management, conflict resolution, and preparation for re-entry into society.
Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP)
Rivers Correctional Facility offers the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). The prison also provides Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and other substance abuse treatment programs.
Rivers Correctional Institution Educational, Library, and Recreation Offerings
Rivers Correctional Center offers GED, English-as-a-Second Language (ESL), and Adult Basic Education (ABE) courses to the inmate population. Offenders without a GED or high school diploma are required to attend classes. High school diplomas, career certificates, and college degrees are available through paid correspondence programs.
Advanced Occupational Education
CI Rivers does not offer any advanced occupational education programs.
CI Rivers offers vocational training in Building Construction, Commercial Driving, and Computer Technology.
Rivers Correctional Facility does not offer any apprenticeship programs.
CI Rivers inmates have access to a law library, leisure library, general-interest library, and religious services. In the leisure library, inmates can check out fiction and nonfiction books, newspapers, and magazines. In the law library, inmates can conduct legal research and prepare legal filings.
Rivers Correctional Center does not house a UNICOR facility.
Inmates can shop once per week at the institution’s Commissary. Inmates can purchase items such as food, drinks, hygiene products, and electronics.
Rivers Correctional Institution offers indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities. As with other private facilities, offerings at this prison include arts and crafts, physical fitness, sports, board games, and card games.
Visitation Information for CI Rivers
Visitation is held between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m Thursday through Sunday. On federal holidays visiting hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
