It is a medium-security institution and is adjoined by a minimum-security prison camp, both of which serve male inmates. It opened in 2012 and is one of the newest prisons in the federal system. As with all federal prisons, inmates must maintain prison employment and may pursue educational and vocational goals while incarcerated. The facility also houses a Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (RDAP), the drug treatment program which permits eligible inmates to earn one year off their sentence for successful completion. As a Medical Care Level 1 facility, it houses inmates with limited healthcare needs. Inmates who require ongoing medical care for serious medical needs are typically not housed in Medical Care Level 1 facilities.
