Background

Moshannon Valley Correctional Center is a private prison. It is owned and operated by the GEO Group.

Since 2006, the prison has provided correctional services for the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). This is an agency under the purview of the federal government’s justice department.

The American Correctional Association accredited the prison in 2008 and awarded re-accreditation in 2011 and 2014. The Joint Commission (TJC) also accredited the facility in 2008 and re-accredited it in 2017.

Notable inmates include David Radler, sentenced to 29 months for mail fraud. Kareem Serageldin was released in 2016 after serving 30 months for conspiracy to artificially inflate subprime mortgage bond prices.

Inmate Housing

CI Moshannon Valley inmates live in dormitories.

The facility has four general population inmate housing units: Units A, B, C, and D. Additionally, the facility has a Special Housing Unit.

The general population housing units consist of six dormitories each. Each dorm holds 456 total inmates. Four dormitories consist of 36 bunk beds, housing 78 total inmates. Additionally, the two remaining dormitories house 72 prisoners in 32 bunk beds.

Building E is used to house receiving and discharge inmates. The housing unit is also used as a Special Housing Unit step-down program. Inmates are housed in 27 two-person cells. This housing unit also has one handicap cell. Each cell has a toilet, sink, and shower.

The Special Housing Unit comprises A Wing (administrative segregation) and B Wing (disciplinary segregation). Both wings have 32 double-occupancy cells and one single-person handicap cell.

Health Services

The Moshannon Valley Correctional Center inmates can access routine and emergency dental and health care. They can obtain emergency health care 24 hours a day by approaching any staff member and requesting assistance. Inmates must submit a sick call form to receive an appointment for routine healthcare.

Psychology Services

During intake, Moshannon Valley Processing Center inmates participate in an intake interview, substance abuse counseling, life skills, and employment assistance. Typical treatment psychology groups include stress management, anger management, and others. Crisis intervention is available 24 hours a day.

Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP)

Moshannon Valley Correctional Facility does not offer the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). However, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) groups are available.
