CI D. Ray James is a private prison. The D. Ray James Correctional Facility was awarded a contract in January 2010. The institution houses adult male inmates for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The facility is now owned and operated by The GEO Group, Inc.
The prison delivers all services, providing an environment for prisoners working their way through the judicial system. It is one of several private facilities that house federal inmates.

CI D. Ray James inmates are provided with an intake examination. Routine and emergency health care and dental care are also available to the inmate population. Inmates must submit a sick call form to be evaluated for routine or chronic health care concerns. Emergency medical care is available 24 hours a day.
Correctional Institution D. Ray James offers correctional mental health care. Services include counseling and programs created to have a rehabilitative impact. The Living in Balance program is available to inmates.

High school diplomas and post-secondary degrees are available through paid correspondence programs. Inmates are also provided with life skills classes to enhance parenting skills.
Advanced Occupational Education
Correctional Institution D. Ray James offers advanced occupational education in smart board technology. Inmates may also receive customized learning through individual education plans. Dynamic grouping and technology-based learning are also available.
CI D. Ray James offers vocational training in Custodial Maintenance, Barbering, Horticulture, Electrical, Building Trades, Auto Mechanics, Upholstery, and Weaving. Other vocational training programs are provided in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Small Engine Repair, Masonry, Plumbing, Culinary Arts, Computer Repair, Carpentry, and Welding. In partnership with Pit Sisters, the prison offers the Teaching Animals and Inmate Life Skills (TAILS) program. This program helps to rehabilitate and train dogs.
Correctional Institution D. Ray James does not offer any apprenticeship programs to inmates.
Law and leisure libraries are available for inmate use at D. Ray James Correctional Institution. Inmates can check out fiction and nonfiction books, newspapers, and magazines. In the law library, inmates can conduct legal research and prepare legal filings.

Inmates are allowed to shop in the institution’s commissary once a week. Prisoners may purchase clothing, shoes, food, snacks, electronics, drinks, and other items in the commissary.
CI D. Jay James provides both indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities to the inmate population. Inmates are allowed to exercise, play sports, create art, and engage in various craft projects.
