Three federal correctional facilities are in Arkansas. All are part of the Federal Correctional Complex in Forrest City, Arkansas. These include medium-, low-, and minimum-security prisons. While all three Forrest City FCC facilities housed federal inmates, the inmate demographics at each institution differ significantly.

FCI Forrest City Medium

Federal Correctional Institution Forrest City Medium is a medium-security level federal prison located in Forrest City, Arkansas. The South Central Regional Office oversees the facility. FCI Forrest City Medium is a Medical Care Level 2 prison that houses 1,064 male inmates. This facility houses all offenders in cells.

FCI Forrest City Low

Federal Correctional Institution Forrest City Low is a low-security level federal prison located in Forrest City, Arkansas. FCI Forrest City Low is a Medical Care Level 2 prison. The correctional facility houses 1,703 male inmates. Offenders are housed in open dormitories that are divided into cubicles.

FCI Forrest City Camp

Federal Correctional Institution Forrest City Camp is a minimum-security level federal prison located in Forrest City, Arkansas. The South Central Regional Office has responsibility for this prison. FCI Forrest City Low Camp is a Medical Care Level 2 prison that houses 188 male inmates. This facility houses prisoners in open dormitories.

FCI Forrest City Medium

Federal Correctional Institution Forrest City Medium is a medium-security facility for male inmates. The facility is in eastern Arkansas in the town of Forrest City. It is 85 miles east of Little Rock in Saint Francis County.

As a Medical Care Level 2 prison, FCI Forrest City Medium is equipped to meet offenders’ needs in stable health. These inmates may require quarterly clinical evaluation for chronic conditions, including medically controlled diabetes, epilepsy, and emphysema. Offenders with more serious medical conditions are not housed at this facility.

Inmates are housed in cells. They must perform work in some capacity while incarcerated. Additionally, offenders may take advantage of educational, vocational, and self-enrichment classes and programs.

The facility offers numerous substance abuse treatment programs, including:

Forrest City Low FCI

Federal Correctional Institution Forrest City Low is a low-security facility for male inmates. The prison is located in eastern Arkansas, in the town of Forrest City. The Federal Bureau of Prisons owns and operates this facility, which opened in 1997. Its all-male inmate population lives in dormitory housing with cubicle-style rooms.

FCI Forrest City Low inmates have access to GED and college-level educational opportunities. Vocational and career training, parenting classes, and substance abuse treatment is also available. For example, the following advanced occupational education training programs are available:

  • Drafting Technology

Inmates are required to have a prison work assignment, which their correctional counselor assigns. This Arkansas federal prison has a UNICOR factory that produces furniture. Inmates can also work in these programs:

Forrest City Prison Camp

Federal Correctional Institution Forrest City Camp is a minimum-security prison. The correctional facility is part of the Forrest City Federal Correctional Complex. The minimum-security camp contains two dormitory-style housing units.

Inmates at the prison camp have more freedom than others incarcerated in other federal prisons in Arkansas. Inmates must pose minimal risk of violence and escape to be housed at FCI Forrest City Camp. Additionally, they must have less than ten years remaining on their sentence. Federal prison camps do not house sex offenders.

As with other Arkansas federal prisons, all inmates are required to hold a prison job. In addition, inmates have access to a variety of programming opportunities. These include substance abuse management treatment, parenting classes, and vocational training. GED, English as a Second Language, and college correspondence courses are also available.
