El Reno FCI

Federal Correctional Institution El Reno is located in the central part of the state in El Reno, Oklahoma, in Canadian County, about 30 miles west of Oklahoma City. This medium-security institution serves male inmates and also contains an adjacent minimum-security satellite work camp. Opened in 1933, FCI El Reno has evolved over the years. It originally served inmates transferred from other facilities and then was designated to serve younger adult male prisoners. It is one of the two remaining farms in the federal system. In all Oklahoma federal prisons, as is the case nationally, inmates are required to obtain prison employment. Many work in the prison’s metal factory or on the working dairy farm. In addition, those who do not have a high school diploma must get their GED. Other opportunities exist for self-enrichment, life skills education, recreation, and occupational development. Offenders are housed in two-person cells.

El Reno Prison Camp

Federal Correctional Institution El Reno Camp is located in the central part of the state in El Reno, Oklahoma, in Canadian County, about 30 miles west of Oklahoma City. This minimum-security work camp is adjacent to the Fort Reno military reserve’s medium-security FCI El Reno institution. Although controls and security structures are less strict in the camp, offenders must still pursue educational and vocational goals, including regular prison employment. To that end, many inmates are employed in the prison’s metal factory or on the on-campus dairy farm.

Great Plains CI

Correctional Institution Great Plains is a prison for male inmates located in Caddo County, Oklahoma, in Hinton. It is the only Oklahoma federal prison that is privately owned and operated. The facility opened in 1991 and primarily housed prisoners from Oklahoma until 2007. In 2008, the institution expanded to accommodate approximately 2000 inmates from Arizona, which only lasted for two years. In 2014, after several years of being unoccupied, CI Great Plains received a federal contract to house low-security “non-U.S. criminal aliens” with less than a year remaining on their sentences. All inmates are required to have prison employment and must pursue educational, vocational, and life skills goals to prepare them for their imminent release.

Oklahoma FTC

Federal Transfer Center Oklahoma is located in Oklahoma City, the state capital. It houses male and female offenders and parole violators of all security levels. Most prisoners are processed through FTC Oklahoma before being permanently assigned to other federal prisons in Oklahoma, or throughout the U.S. Its position directly adjacent to the Will Rogers World Airport makes it the ideal central hub for the Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation System, colloquially known as Con Air.
