Federal Correctional Institution Cumberland is located in Western Maryland in Allegany County 130 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. The facility also includes a minimum-security camp. Both serve male inmates. Everyone incarcerated at FCI Cumberland without their high school diplomas must work toward their GED. In addition, inmates must take part in academic and other enrichment programs. There is a UNICOR factory on-site that manufactures license plates. Many inmates are employed within the UNICOR facility. Inmates at this facility are housed in two- and three-person cubicles. The facility also offers the Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (RDAP), where eligible inmates can earn a one-year time credit for program completion. Indoor and outdoor recreational programs are available to inmates.
Federal Correctional Institution Cumberland Camp is in western Maryland in Allegany County 130 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. It is located adjacent to the FCI Cumberland medium-security facility. The nonviolent male offenders housed at the camp are subject to fewer restrictions but are still expected to pursue academic and vocational goals, maintain a prison job, and participate in life skills and other enrichment programs designed to lead to a successful reentry. Inmates at the camp are housed in a dormitory setting. The camp also offers an RDAP program for eligible inmates. Both leisure and law libraries are available to the inmate population. Sex offenders, violent prisoners, and those with histories of escape are not permitted to be housed at the minimum-security level.
