Media reports indicate that one guard was indicted for sexually abusing a child in the parking lot of an elementary school. Another guard was indicted for smuggling contraband into the institution.

FCI Forrest City Medium has the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). The facility also provides the Drug Abuse Education Course, the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NR-DAP), Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), and Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
FCI Forrest City Medium Educational, Library, and Recreation Offerings
FCI Forrest City Medium provides literacy, GED, and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) programs. Instructors use the Adult Basic Learning Exam (ABLE), Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), and Spanish Assessment of Basic Education (SABE) tests to determine each inmate’s academic abilities.
To request placement in any of these classes, Forrest City inmates can wait until staff assign them to a class or expedite the process by submitting a cop-out or speaking to an Education Department staff member at the noon meal.
Adult Continuing Education (ACE) and parenting classes are also available to the inmate population. High school diplomas and post-secondary degrees are available through paid correspondence programs.

Inmates report a low level of violence at this facility. One inmate referred to the prison as being “safe.”
Sex offenders, informants, and LGBT inmates can remain.
According to one respondent, “Sex offenders seem to be everywhere.” He further explained, “The only place where sex offenders seem to have any problems are with the TVs. They should avoid TV rooms.” Another inmate stated that “all are allowed in the yard.”

“TVs can be problematic for sex offenders and other undesirables.” “Visits are highly controlled, and families are sometimes sent away after a long trip to the prison due to stupid reasons. Sometimes no reason is given. The cops are also slow at calling people to visitation.” “More programs are needed for the sex offender population.”
FCI Forrest City Medium in the News
In October 2011, Charles Witcher, a 24-year-old guard at Federal Correctional Institution Forrest City Medium, was arrested for statutory rape after having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl in the parking lot of an elementary school.
In May 2005, Xavier Livingstone, a guard at Forrest City prison, was arrested while trying to smuggle contraband into the facility.
